Lahle A. Wolfe Ms. Wolfe is the original founder of iPump and is largely responsible for the impressive growth of the organization. In less than two years, she has turned iPump into the largest, and only, full-service, diabetes assistance organization serving the entire Ms. Wolfe is the first, and only person, to successfully partner a nonprofit organization with an insulin pump company to facilitate the recertification of used insulin pumps, that are then distributed for free to diabetics in need. No other organization currently has this privilege, or serves this need. Ms. Wolfe is the owner and president of Islets of Hope (IOH), a health-on-the-net certified diabetes information website. The website lists thousands of legal and financial resources for people with diabetes, and allows other business owners living with diabetes to advertise for free on the site. Ms. Wolfe and her personal and professional accomplishments as a diabetes advocate have been featured in numerous media, including the “Washington Post,” “Woman’s Day Magazine,” “Diabetes Forecast Magazine,” “The San Francisco Chronicle,” “USA Today,” and on WedMD. |
Background and Professional Experience: Ms. Wolfe has been actively involved in nonprofit and patient advocacy work since 1995. She founded iPump.org, Inc. in June of 2006, and donated more than 6,500 hours of her professional time to establish and work as full-time volunteer executive director for the organization to ensure a solid beginning. Ms. Wolfe is now a paid staff member and handles all iPump’s day-to-day operations including inventory management of all in-kind donations and shipments; processing client applications; maintaining the corporation’s website and intranet; authors newsletters, publications, and grant writing.
Ms. Wolfe has been actively involved with the Disability Rights and Defense Education Fund (DREDF) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in successfully changing California Laws regarding the rights of students with diabetes in public schools. She serves at national-level on the Advocacy Committee for the American Diabetes Association, and is a professional member of the California Diabetes Coalition. Ms. Wolfe serves as a mentor for other business women through MicroMentor, and the Women’s Mentor Network.
Ms. Wolfe is a contracted, paid writer for the New York Times (NYT), and created and authors a website for the NYT for, and about, women in business. She has written publications on the legal rights of diabetics in public schools and the workplace which have been adopted by the New Mexico Department of Health.
Ms. Wolfe has type 2 diabetes, a child with type 1 diabetes, and a child with Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) who has battled associated, life-long kidney complications.

IPump.org, Inc., a California Public Benefits Corporation, is charitable organization that was incorporated June 20, 2006 in
IPump.org,Inc.is governed by a board of directors and was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to qualifying persons with diabetes who may not otherwise be able to afford the cost of their medical care, medications and diabetes supplies. We offer assistance to people of all ages - infant through seniors, with any form of diabetes.
Our
IPump.org, Inc. was formed for the main purpose of providing financial assistance and free diabetes supplies to qualifying diabetics, who, for reasons of financial hardship, cannot otherwise afford the cost of their medical care and supplies.
As of July 13, 2008, thanks to our caring donors iPump has given away supplies to help more than 2,700 people with diabetes, including:
- 15,000 test strips
- 19,000 lancets
- 5,000 lancing devices
- 1,200 blood glucose meters
- 7,500 syringes and pen needles
- $50,000 in insulin pump supplies
- $3,500 in sharps containers, glucose tabs, and alcohol pads
- 70 Quilts to children with diabetes; and
- 15 insulin pumps.
