I have enclosed an article about Nicole that was in a national horse magazine not necessarily to boast, (well okay a little), but to encourage others of her age and to show that the sky is still the limit even though one may be a diabetic.  We are very proud of the fact that Nicole does not allow her being a diabetic inhibit her aspirations in any way and feel that your products help make that a possibility.  I would like to encourage others especially the younger children and their parents to not let being a diabetic create an excuse not to do something but as an opportunity to find a way to adapt because remember, doing something as a diabetic takes much more courage and dedication than for a person who is not a diabetic and that takes character.

Madison (Maddie), now four years old, has had Type 1, IDDM, for over 3 years.  She was diagnosed at the unimaginable age of 15-months old.   Madison could give herself her own insulin injections (5-7/day) by the time she was 2 ½ year old; she tests her own glucose levels (15-20 times/day) and is on a stringent "carbohydrate-counting" diet.   Last September, Maddie went on the "pump"; just after her fourth birthday.  Her A1c levels were constantly over 10.2, even after careful and consistent monitoring of her glucose.  We are pleased to report that after five months of hard, laborious work, we have lowered her A1c level by "2.yes.2" points!!  I am so proud of her!!!

Madison is a committed ADA & JDRF Advocate and Volunteer.  She and I have spent a lot of time volunteering for our local Baton Rouge, LA, Office, in addition to attending numerous Senate and Legislative hearings to voice our support in favor of important issues that affect our family's afflicted with this and other diseases.

Our most recent volunteer efforts include, testifying in favor of promising SCNT research at two Senate Judiciary Meetings, as well as the Health & Welfare House Committee Meetings, and sitting through over 3 hours of the Senate Floor Hearing's Vote, just to show our support for the research that could eventually cure Maddie's disease.

She was chosen as a National Diabetes Advocate by the ADA where we met with State Legislators in Washington D.C. at the ADA 's "2004 Call to Congress" last May.

Her daily perseverance and endless tolerance through the testing, insulin injections, diet restrictions and timelines; constantly amazes and reminds me how we can take the simplest things in life for granted.   She has taught me that we should all enjoy each day to its fullest and appreciate every moment! It is my pleasure and privilege to be one that knows and loves her!
